But my saluting things past will have to wait for another day. Here's how my long weekend went.
My friend came up from North Carolina for the weekend, so on Friday night, a few of us got together and saw X-Men: The Last Stand. My review for that will come in a few days (although to be brief, I was disappointed).
Saturday I didn't do a whole lot, went to the comic book store and talked to Comic Book Guy 3.0 about X-Men, but he didn't see it, so it was only a brief convo about superhero movies in general.
Sunday morning I got up early, and dad and I went to the baseball stadium for the 5K Memorial Day Race (it was from the stadium, to the water, and back). Unfortunately, I'm still getting used to running in the heat again, but at least the race was level (where I usually run, there are some hills).
I started out at an even pace and didn't exert myself. I definitely could've gone faster, but I didn't. For those of you who don't know, 5K is a little over 3 miles. Towards the 2 1/2 mile mark, I started getting a bit of a second wind. I wanted to start singing to the people who were running near me-
"Oh I could hide 'neath the wings of the blue bird as she sings,
the six o'clock alarm would never ring
But it rings and I rise, wipe the sleep out of my eyes
The shaving razor's cold and it stings
Shayera Hol, just came clean
Thanagarian men been harassing me,
'Hearts and Minds', Hawkgirl is fine
We been flirtin' in the Watchtower about 50 11 times
Pass me one more beer stein
Hro Talak tried to smack my teammates down
Alien guard go to take my ring now
Hero powerless then Hawkman threaten me now"
But...yeah, I didn't sing that. It was in my head, though, rest assured.
I finished 27:30, which was pretty bad. Last year I did it in 25, and my top time for a 5K is a little over 20 minutes. Argh, I normally don't like to exert myself, but I really wish I could do a bit better.
After that, I went to my friend's house because she was having a cookout (actually, it was her son's christening and that's why my other friend was up). That was fun, and we made s'mores! Enjoy me talking about having friends while you can, because it doesn't happen often.
Today was nothing special, just happy to not have to go to work. I've had a sore throat all weekend, and I'm supposed to give blood tomorrow. They may send me home, though. We'll see.
