In Defence of Disney Princesses

So, continuing my investigation into my fandoms, I decided now is a good time to tackle this one. When I eventually organize and number them, I'm sure Disney is going to be in the Top 5, if not Top 3, which is interesting. Therefore, for our purposes, I'm going to subdivide and talk about the Princess branch of Disney. I like Disney Princesses, but there's a lot of hype backlash, so I'm going to use this entry to defend them.

And, really, I do understand a lot of the criticism. There's a LOT of Disney Princess merchandise, and yeah, a result of the whole Disney Princess thing is making little girls think they're supposed to dress up and look pretty.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a heterosexual adult male. As a result, I'm pretty much immune to that stuff. I don't want to decorate my room with merchandise, and I have no desire whatsoever to look like one of them. What I enjoy about the Disney Princesses is that they each represent different virtues, and I love the idea that they promote these virtues in their movies. Discussion after the cut.

Spoilers for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog, and Tangled. Plus a couple episodes of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
