My Going Away Party

I need to update these things more frequently, especially since big changes are happening.

I went for my last doctor's visit on Thursday.  I'm nice and healthy, got my prescriptions renewed, but it's going to suck to go from nice, fat yacht employee insurance to rinky dink university student insurance.

I was going to take the afternoon off, but I had to get back to the office for my going away party.  I did linger a bit before returning to the office, though...made a few calls, bought a Little Mermaid magnet (still can't believe the show is closing), then went back to work.

I was feeling a bit down in the dumps...I'm anticipating separation anxiety...from work, from my friends, the East Coast, everything.  Our first stop was at the top of this rooftop bar in the Flatiron District.  Amazing view, but I was still depressed.

The big surprise for my going away party was that we went to a cooking class.  It was private, just for me, my co-workers, and their significant others (there were about a dozen of us).  It really lightened up my mood.  We made this elaborate pasta meal.  Everyone had their own task, and there was plenty of wine.  Needless to say, we got pretty drunk.  I was smashing and peeling garlic, and I kept yelling "AZARATH METRION...ZINTHOS!!!"  Then I moved on to the singing portion ("Summer Breeze", "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues", "Man in the Mirror", etc.).

It wasn't all singing and waving around sharp kitchen utensils, there was some heartwarming moments.  My boss made a speech about how valuable I've been.  Then I made a speech about how grateful I was for the experience.  Then another co-worker told an amusing anecdote about me when I first started.

Such a great evening...I'm going to miss those folks.  My last day isn't until Wednesday, but I've got lots of preparation to do...yikes!
